Prof Abdulrasheed Na’Allah & KWASU Affair: Will The Injustice Continue? - By Abu Is'
. "I tried as much as possible to remain silent in the face of injustice, autocracy, extortion and maltreatment inflicted on the subjects of Kwara state University by it Don, Professor Abdulrasheed Na’allah, even when I understand the fact that silence in an unjust situation is a crime against humanity and un-lookers are traitors.
I am sure you will agree with me that if you are no affected by the problem of others around you, then you are infected by the syndrome of inhumanity." Thus, my silence is not because I have suddenly turned to be a coward, nor because I am now a social criminal neither is it because I am now inhumane, but because our dear Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara State have consistently proven to Kwarans and Nigerians that the University Don is un-checkable, uncontrollable and too powerful to be curtailed by His Excellency regarding his different maladies in the cause of KWASU administration." This assertion is as a result of the fact that several extortion, academic autocracy and violation of human right cases perpetrated by the Na’allah led KWASU administration have been reported to all tiers of the state government, yet, the situation is getting more worsened for both staffs and students of the university. Taking reference from the recent riot by the students of Kwara state Polytechnic over a late registration fees of N10,000, which the state government intervened in less than 24 hours and ordered the reversal of the fees with immediate effect. This is an indication that Kwara state government itself is not peace loving because they have continued to abuse the resolute and orderly nature of students of Kwara state University while responding to the agitations of only those who applied confrontational approach." "You will recall that Professor Abdulrasheed Na’allah extended his hand of autocracy and infringement of human right to the Academic staff of the University by suspending the strong pillars of their association which just earned observer status, before lately co-opting some new set of executives of ASSU, which he (Na’allah) believes will not make probe of his anomalies. Afterward, it was gathered that the VC announced the lift of ban on Union activities in the University which translate to the fact that the students can now fully establish and activate formally, an independent Student Union as permitted within the ambit of Nigeria law and as obtainable in any higher institutions of learning to make their voice heard in the University administration process." "Despite the laudable and bold step taken by the hypocritical VC of KWASU, while the students of the university are on break, a form was designed for all fresh and final students of the university called “safety form”, which contained columns where students are to fill their personal information and append their thumb prints and signatures under a vow that they are not a member of any cult group or “university association”. The statement reads “I VOW TO ABIDE BY THE RULES AND REGULATIONS OF THE UNIVERSITY AND ALSO STATE THAT I AM NOT A MEMBER OF ANY SECRET CULT OR UNIVERSITY ASSOCIATION”. The question is what is meant by University association? We agree that all stakeholders in the education sector are hands on in the fight against cultism, but is Prof Na’allah also criminalizing the open association of students in the university? Students Union Government (SUG), Muslim Students’ Society (M.S.S), Christian Students’ Fellowship and departmental association among others are all University Association, is KWASU VC prohibiting all these in the interest of stopping students unionism at all cost even when Nigerian constitution provides expressly for individual freedom of association regardless of whether you are a student or not?" "Months ago, the dissatisfaction of KWASU Don about KWASU joining the Kwara State Treasury Single Account (TSA) was reported which the VC denied in a comprehensive mail to the university community. But his dissatisfaction about the new treasury policy was displayed by introducing a fees ranging from N10,000 and above, depending on respective colleges aside the tuition fees paid into the single treasury in the name of daily imprest to keep the university on the move. If at all there is any inefficiency attributed to the treasury single account system in Kwara state, must the students bear the rot? Why are these students’ subjected to continuous undue extortion? Yet our kwara government have remained irresponsive to the poor students when University education are free for indigent students in other northern state, why is Kwara government making life miserable for students here in Kwara? Because this wouldn’t have manifested this long and to this extent if our government is responsible and ignorant of the whole academic tragedy KWASU students found themselves in." "If truly the Abdulfatah Ahmed led Kwara government are not anti masses and peace loving, they should respect the resolute and orderly nature of these students, feel for the poor students of these students who are struggling hard to get the best for their wards by curtailing the administrative excesses of the KWASU VC in this new coming year 2016. While wishing Kwara’s own governor a fulfilling year ahead, I implore him (Ahmed) to take cognizance to this in all objectivity and I wish to also advice Prof Na’allah that it is not too late to be a better and democratic administrator because history will indict and vindicate us all accordingly."
