Ten persons were feared dead while five others were injured in an auto crash which occurred at Ibara Village along Sagamu-Abeokuta Expressway, on Thursday.The accident involved an 18-seater Mazda commercial bus with number plate TRE 556 XA and a truck laden with granite with number plate LND 564 XP.The accident which was said to have occurred around 10
am, was caused by speeding on the part of the truck driver, who rammed the articulated vehicle into the bus from behind.The bus was said to be travelling to Ago Iwoye from Sango-Ota when the incident happened.Those who died in the accident according to the Ogun State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Clement Oladele, were four males and six females.He said only five passengers survived the auto crash.
The Public Relations Officer of the state Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps, Babatunde Akinbiyi, however, said those who died were nine -three males, five females and a baby.He said a nursing mother and her two-month-old baby girl were among those who died.Akinbiyi said one of the passengers in the bus had been pressed by nature and had begged the driver to park for her to urinate, and it was while she was urinating by the roadside that the driver of the truck lost control due to speeding, and rammed into bus, crushing it and emptying its content on it.He said further, “The driver of the truck lost control due to speeding because it was raining and rammed into the stationary bus from behind and dragged it in the process for some metres and later fell on it.”Akinbiyi said the driver of the truck was still at large as at the time of filing this report.He said three prospective students of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, who were going to formalise their admission were also involved.Meanwhile, the corpses were said to have been deposited in the morgue of the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu while the injured were also receiving treatment in the same hospital.
